The new Orbiter v2.5 is based on the well-known Orbiter v2.0, with several improvements that further enhance its extrusion performance.
- The newly developed Precision Spider Shaft features a knurled surface and ensures maximum accuracy, with a measured eccentricity of only 20-30 µm. The firmly pressed drive gear improves gear eccentricity and guarantees precise filament feeding.
- The newly designed Wide Cut Gears provide a consistent extrusion rate, regardless of filament position. The flat gear profile prevents any change in the feed diameter, resulting in consistent print quality. Additionally, the durable RNC coating (with a hardness of HRC60+) ensures increased longevity and improved performance. The extruder is highly wear-resistant, making it ideal for use with abrasive materials.
The Orbiter V2.5 extruder comes fully assembled and equipped with the proven LDO-36STH20-1004AH high-temperature-resistant "pancake" stepper motor. However, the motor now features shorter wiring to better suit typical toolhead board setups (a cable extender is included).
Firmware configurations are the same as for the Orbiter v2.0, check the Orbiter v2.0 webpage for details. Due to different cutting technique, the rotation distance & steps/mm might change slightly, so a new extrusion calibration is advisable; however, the base setting is still the same:
- steps: 690 steps/mm @ 16 micro-stepping
- rotation distance: 4.637
